第一次知道“查巴旺巴”（Chumbawamba）这个名字是在比耶克原来的小公司One Little Indian出的一个拼盘中。不仅仅是因为它的名字很怪，更重要的是他们那种清爽的风格让我记忆犹新，于是一口气买下了他们所有的专辑。虽然他们的音乐是能让很多人接受，但音乐中流露出强烈的政治意识却让很多人望而却步。所以，直到1998年法国世界杯期间那首著名的“足球流氓”歌曲《群情激昂》（Tubthumping）才使“查巴旺巴”成名，说明这支1984年成立于英国利兹的乐队在十多年后才为世界所知。

在过去出的唱片中，他们嘲讽、奚落、挖苦过的对象有英国首相布莱尔、美国总统克林顿、微软总裁比尔•盖茨、迪斯尼、互联网、麦当劳、耶稣基督以及西方社会各种社会问题及丑恶现象……总之，在“查巴旺巴”的眼中就没有什么顺眼的事。尽管他们带有点极端左翼倾向，但在西方人看来，不过是一群无政府主义分子罢了。
很难想像，在他们其实已经很流行的演绎手法、很悦耳的轻快旋律下唱的都是这么一些东西。“查巴旺巴”的音乐有些80年代舞曲遗风和朋克风骨，吉他永远是清爽悦耳，没什么技巧，也没什么狂躁，键盘也很抒情，同时还有些斯加、乡村音乐、民歌、Hip-Hop的成分，但他们的音乐方向很清晰，不在音乐方面做过多的实验，男女主唱轮流演唱，说唱与和声交相呼应，构成“查巴旺巴”音乐最美的一面。
但你走进音乐，发现却是一个愤世嫉俗的世界。在这张《所见即所得》（WYSIWYG，What You See Is What You Get）华美恢宏的《我跟傻瓜在一起》（I'm With Stupid）是他们政治声明；

“Pass It Along”是一首极抒情的歌曲，但它在无情嘲弄当今世界互联网带给人们的虚拟世界，和声不停地唱着这句话“今天你想去哪？”，这是微软在他们网站上一句醒目的话，这首歌警示人们这个世界不是用一个小小鼠标就能控制得住的；另外还有一首质疑互联网的《WWW Dot》；

这就是“查巴旺巴”，似乎在搞恶作剧，在他们的演唱中你听不出什么愤怒，相反倒有些谐趣、夸张，但棉里藏针、笑里藏刀实在让人受不了。专辑一共22首歌曲，但每首歌都不长，而且之间几乎没有间断。他们歌词流露出的对社会不满，却没有长篇大论，相反，有些歌词只有一两句话，由于过分言简意赅，所以差不多每首歌后面都有一些背景介绍，告诉你这首歌创作的原因是什么。
相信大部分人对“查巴旺巴”的观点并不感冒，但对他们别具一格音乐会格外喜欢。
